Little Simz Sues Producer as Sault Collaborator Faces £1.7 Million Detention

Little Simz’s Legal Battle

Little Simz has reportedly sued the manufacturer and participant in Sault regarding a loan of 1.7 million pounds.

Background of the Lawsuit

The British rapper, whose real name is Simbiat Adjikawo, initially filed a lawsuit against her former producer in January. She accused him of holding onto loans that she had advanced him for over a year, and claimed that he failed to account for the funds provided by Sony to support the recording costs.

According to Law360, the loans allegedly total 1.7 million pounds.

The producer, known as Dean Far, also oversees the music team. He was instrumental in the release of Simz’s 2019 album “Grey Area,” along with the 2021 release “Sometimes I Can Be an Introvert” and the 2022 album “No, Thank You.” They had collaborated when Simz managed an employee from his company, Forever Living Originals Ltd.

Reports, including those from Stereogum, revealed that Inflo advised Simz against continuing her work with Universal Music Publishing when her songwriter contract ended, urging her instead towards different publishing options.

Financial Implications

Following this, she signed a contract with AWAL, an artists’ label under Sony, at the end of 2022. She secured a total advance of £2 million for three upcoming albums, along with an additional 625,000 pounds for the recording expenses of her third album.

Reports indicate that she transferred over 600,000 pounds to Pulpo via the Forever Living Originals bank account before receiving her recording payment from AWAL.

In her lawsuit, Simz stated that she believed any funds not spent on recording expenses would be returned after the album’s completion. In October of last year, Pulpo’s lawyers allegedly raised the issue of covering the recording fees, which amounted to slightly less than 525,000 pounds.

Allegations also surfaced in 2023, where she sent 1 million pounds to secure her only show of the year at Drumsheds in London, as well as lending him 500,000 pounds and later 200,000 pounds. The new claim states that the condition for the drummer’s concert was for him to repay it by the beginning of December, which he failed to do.

Due to his alleged inability to pay her back, Simz struggled to meet her tax obligations and incurred additional interest expenses.

Pulpo did not provide any defense during the letter, even though his legal team acknowledged the debt last October, suggesting that the error lay with Forever Living Originals, rather than Pulpo.
