Little Simz Postpones Album Release for “From the Film Film Planning”

Simz Delays Upcoming Album Release

Little Simz has postponed the release of her upcoming album “Lotus,” citing “Film Planning” as the reason for the delay.

New Release Date Announced

Originally scheduled to debut on May 9, the album’s release has now been moved to June 6, with distribution through AWAL Recordings. Simz announced this news on Instagram, explaining that the rescheduling comes in light of film production that has just commenced.

She added: “It’s not perfect for me, or I know, believe me, I’ve looked for many alternatives, but it just means that I can’t complete the film otherwise. If I’ve ever asked for your grace and patience, it is now.”

Simz’s Acting Career

In addition to her music career, Simz has also ventured into acting, appearing in the Netflix revival of The Best Boy as Shelley, and portraying Melka in the E4 television series Young. Her initial role was as Vika in the CBBC children’s series Spiritual Warriors.

She also featured in Sony’s film Poison: Let There Be a Massacre, where she performed her track “Poison.”

“Lotus” continues the trajectory of her previous album, released in 2022, titled “No, Thank You.” In a four-star review by NME, the album was described as a “quiet, introspective release” with parallels drawn to Kendrick Lamar’s unmastered release in 2016, highlighting a series of leftovers from his sessions for “Pimp a Butterfly.”

“It also possesses a certain freedom and looseness in its tracks, and like Lamar, there’s something urgent that Simz needs to articulate. This reinforces the case for Simz, positioning her as a true contemporary great.”

In other news related to Simz, the Mercury and Brit award-winning rapper is slated to perform at a unique orchestral event in London during the CrealtDown festival in 2025. Earlier reports indicated the festival is set to take place over an 11-day span and she will share the stage with various artists.

The event is scheduled from June 12 to June 22 and will feature a series of live performances from artists chosen by Simz, alongside two weekends of free programs aimed at engaging the public and local organizations.
