Recent Activity and Fan Reactions
The English Nigerian rapper has not released a studio album since “No Shank You” in December 2022, but she closed 2024 with the new single “Hello, Hello” and hinted that there would be more in 2025.
Recently, she shared a series of new photos on her Instagram page, accompanied by a mysterious caption: “Download”.
This post excited her fans, with many speculating in the comments about the imminent release of a new album.
“Does this mean that the album will appear?” one fan wrote, while another added: “Is the new Simz drop going to shake things up?”
A third fan commented: “We are ready for the album.”
NME awarded “No, Thank You” Four Stars in 2022, noting: “This quiet, unassuming release has parallels with Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Untitled Unmastered’ from 2016, echoing remnants from his ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’ sessions. It carries a certain freedom for the tracks, and, like Lamar, there’s something urgent to communicate. This release bolsters the case for SIMZ to be recognized as one of the modern greats.”
Despite not releasing a new album in recent years, SIMZ has still made appearances, featuring on Sampha’s recent single “Satellite Business 2.0” and Retch 32’s “Black and British” track.
She also collaborated with Tate Modern last year to curate an evening of music sessions, seminars, and discussions.
In November, SIMZ presented Busta Rhymes with the Global Icon Award at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Manchester.
More recently, she was nominated in the Hip-Hop/Grime/Rap category for the upcoming Brit Awards 2025, alongside Stormzy, Central Cee, Dave, and Ghetts. This is one of five categories decided initially by fan votes in the WhatsApp Brits chat.
This year’s awards will be held at the O2 in London on Saturday, March 1, and will be broadcast exclusively on ITV1 and ITVX. Comedian and actor Jack Whitehall will return as the host for the fifth time, following his previous roles in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021.
Voting is open until 23:59 on Friday, February 14, and fans can vote in each category once a day Here.
