Past Conflicts and Future Prospects

Buckingham was dismissed from the band in 2018 after over 40 years due to disputes regarding the tour, which were later taken up by Tom Petty’s Mike Campbell and Neil Finn from Crowded House.

Last year, he indicated that he would rejoin the band “in a heartbeat,” although their future presence together remains uncertain following the passing of longtime member Christina McVie in 2022 at the age of 79.

Recently, it has been confirmed through photos that Buckingham and Fleetwood are on good terms, as producer Karl Falk shared a series of posts, including images from their joint studio session, indicating that this meeting is related to an upcoming Buckingham solo album.

“It was quite an emotional moment to sit with Lindsay Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood as we played Lindsay the album we were working on,” Falk explained. “Seeing his genuine happiness for Mick, as he finally makes his own album and offers to play guitar and sing on it, was delightful. I can’t wait to finish it.”

Another image from the sessions features Fleetwood alongside Adam Granduciel from “War on Drugs,” suggesting his contribution to the album as well.

This news comes after earlier comments made by Fleetwood, expressing a desire for Buckingham and Stevie Nicks to reconcile further and simply acknowledge that everything is alright.

Similarly, he noted last year: “It’s no secret that there is a wall between them.”

He elaborated, “But personally, I hope to see a healing occur between them—that shouldn’t necessitate a tour.”

After Buckingham’s dismissal in 2018, he stated in an interview with People that it was primarily “all about what Stevie does,” alleging that she set an ultimatum that he leave or she would.

In contrast, Nicks denied these claims, stating, “I never demanded he be fired. The truth is, I quit. I actively removed myself from the group and the situation I found to be toxic to my well-being. I stepped away.”

The prospect of a full Fleetwood Mac reunion appears slim at this point, as Nicks suggested that without the late McVie, there is no chance of gathering Fleetwood Mac as a unit. “Without Christina, no, there is no chance in any sense of making Fleetwood Mac work. It simply cannot happen,” she stated.

In other news, it was revealed last year that a “fully authorized,” “final” documentary chronicling the history of Fleetwood Mac is currently in development.
