Lily Allen discusses her journey
Lily Allen shared insights about her experience of “taking pain” and expressed her intention to get a tattoo that reflects this message following her separation from David Harbor.
Recent separation news
Reports of the couple’s split after four years of marriage surfaced earlier this month. Allen and Stranger actor Harbor began dating in 2019 after connecting on the RAYA dating app and exchanged vows in a private ceremony in Las Vegas in September 2020.
In light of the breakup, Allen mentioned that she visited a medical facility to manage her “emotional turmoil” post-separation.
Recently, during a conversation with co-host Mikita Oliver on the latest episode of the podcast Miss Me?, the “Smile” hitmaker expressed her desire to obtain a new tattoo symbolizing the concept of “taking pain.” The inspiration stemmed from a book she recently read about “compassion for herself.”
“It really stood out for me, and I could even get it as a tattoo, which was ‘suffering X Pain = resistance,’” she told Oliver. She elaborated, saying: “You must sit with pain and confront pain and embrace pain.”
Allen added: “I love pain, I embrace the pain; you should experience it as if ‘it hurts.’ It’s normal for things to be painful, and recognizing pain is essential. If you resist it, you cause your own suffering.”
The singer-songwriter recently took a break from Miss Me? and other commitments to concentrate on her mental health. “I’m really not in a good place,” Allen said to co-host Mikita Oliver during a podcast episode last month. “I know I’ve mentioned this for months, but I keep spiraling, and it has become unmanageable.”

The star mentioned that her primary focus is on “the pain that I am going through,” particularly in light of the news about her split from Harbor. She informed her audience that she would be “taking a break” soon, stating that fans won’t hear from her for “several weeks.”
However, she refuted speculation regarding a rehabilitation stay. “I have not gone to rehab,” she assured Oliver. The LDN artist further mentioned that she is “not allowed” to use her phone during her time away.
Meanwhile, Allen and Oliver are set to bring their Miss Me? podcast to a live audience for the first time in March. In related news, Allen revealed that she “hopes to release” her new album “by the end of the year.”
