Reflections on the Past and Future

His comments were made following a recent interview with Katya Stone on the eve of the cult electronic group’s Australian stage of their “Disrupta Tour,” which celebrates their first shows in the country in five years.

During the discussion, Houlet reminisced about never being concerned with the group’s induction into prestigious rock hall scenes until now, expressing hope for future consideration.

“This is not what I thought about, but yes, when you talked about it, we must be there. Do it!” he told The Outlet.

He also mentioned that although he never focused much on the charts, seeing the group achieve success in the United States instilled a new sense of pride in their music, opening doors to the rock genre.

Reflecting on their milestone achievement with the massive album of 1997, Howlett noted: “I never cared about the charts. But somehow, the ‘fat’ of the Earth made it to number one in the United States. That was extra ‘hell’ about this, as only a few British groups have ever accomplished this.”

“So yes, I could say that this gave me a certain daring pride for a while.”

Oasis’s inclusion came after frontman Liam Gallagher criticized the event last year, deliberating that the Hall is “full of boondoggles.” He expressed skepticism about the value of participating, urging fans not to “waste their time,” adding that “as much as he is valued, this is all a load of bollocks.”

Following their second nomination, he reiterated that the Rock Hall is “for wankers.”

Voting for fans is now open, and the finalists for the 2025 class will be announced in April, with the date of the induction ceremony to be revealed later.

For the Wunderkind, they have topped the charts seven times in the UK with their records, including their last LP, “No Tourists” in 2019. They have also had numerous hits including “Firestarter” and “Breathe,” alongside the unprecedented success of “The Fat of the Land” across the pond.

The interview with Howlett comes just months after the group spoke with NME about their return to Reading and Leeds, marking their first appearance at the festival since the passing of Keith Flint.

Looking ahead to the future of the group and new materials in the works, Houlett shared: “Ideas flow more when we are on the road, touring. Playing live fuels my music. It has always been that way. If I have too much free time, I start to get distracted and lose focus. I like to keep it on the edge and keep moving.”

He further mentioned that fans can expect new releases: “We have our own sound from the very beginning, so we are not going to change. It’s all about writing big melodies and finding different ways to engage the audience when we perform live.”
