“Last Christmas” by Wham! Becomes the First Song to Reach #1 on the UK Christmas Charts Two Consecutive Years.

Last Christmas Makes History

Bam! has gone down in history as “Last Christmas” achieved the remarkable feat of topping the UK charts for a second consecutive year on Christmas Day, becoming the first-ever song to hold the number one spot in the UK on Christmas Day back-to-back.

Unprecedented Global Success

This holiday hit attained unprecedented success worldwide this year, achieving its highest position ever on the Billboard charts, and peaking at No. 2 in Canada where it was certified diamond, as well as No. 2 in the United States.

The single also reached number one in several European countries, topping the charts in Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, and Sweden. Notably, this marks its first-ever chart-topping position in the Netherlands, and it remained at number one for four weeks in Sweden.

Celebrating 40 Years of Last Christmas

To celebrate the track’s 40th anniversary, a special commemorative EP has been released in various formats, including limited edition vinyl, CD, and digital versions. This collection includes the original 7″ and 12″ versions of the song, alongside a previously unreleased live performance by George Michael at Wembley Arena in London back in 2006.

Originally released in December 1984, this seven-times platinum single has become the fourth highest-selling single in UK history, having reached the number one position nine times.

A new documentary titled Wham!: Last Christmas Unwrapped, which delves into the story behind this seasonal classic, is currently available on BBC iPlayer.
