Lady Gaga’s Musical Journey
Lady Gaga revealed that there was a time when she considered “getting away” from music, reflecting that she felt “checked” in the past.
The pop star appeared in the latest episode of Hot, a podcast where host Sean Evans interviews celebrities while they consume increasingly spicy chicken wings.
Reflections on Career Choices
At the end of the conversation, Evans posed the question: “What kind of closest did you come out?” This inquiry followed his reading of one of Gaga’s past quotes regarding her “beautiful disco sh*t, which is in some way refractive and broken.”
Evans continued, asking whether there was a “specific project or something more existential” that led Gaga to reconsider her career path. “This is an incredibly deep question to ask me in a panic mode,” she responded. “I missed the community I had in New York, and it was really difficult. So there were definitely times when I felt that perhaps I should leave.”
“I know for sure that I will never quit. I would definitely say that I was tested, but I never gave up. And I still don’t, which means I want to continue.”
Evans previously discussed with Gaga her journey from being a club performer in New York to becoming a global pop icon, including how she landed a residency in Manhattan.

“I was so excited,” the singer reminisced. “It was an honor to be asked to perform there. I remember making my outfit for the show; I sewed it myself. I look back on those memories with love.”
“My whole day revolved around trying to land those gigs. I would knock on doors and simply ask, ‘Can I play here?’ Or I would call pretending to be my manager, saying, ‘She So Burning right now.’ Sometimes it worked. I would do anything to get booked.”

Upcoming Album and Recent Achievements
Back in 2015, Gaga shared that she “wanted to quit music” two years prior due to disliking the fact she could make money from it. She explained, “I feel sad when I’m overworked, and I become a machine for making money, with my passion relegated to the back seat.”
The latest episode of Hot arrives as the star prepares to release her seventh studio album “Mayhem” on March 7. She has already shared three singles from the upcoming record: “Die with a Smile” featuring Bruno Mars, “Disease,” and “Abracadabra.”
This follows her 2020 album “Chromatica” and its companion record “Arlexin” from 2024.
Gaga recently described her upcoming LP as “complete chaos”, noting its influence from “90s alternative music, power pop, Prince and Bowie melodies, funky bass lines, French electronic dance, and analog synthesizers.”
In another reflection, the “Poker Face” artist identified what she considers the “biggest risk” of her career to date.
Earlier this month, Gaga and Bruno Mars won a Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with “Die with a Smile.” The track was also nominated for “Song of the Year” but ultimately lost to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Us.”
Gaga is set to headline Coachella 2025 in April alongside Post Malone and Green Day.
