Lost Collaboration Resurfaces
The previously lost Kylie Minogue and Prince collaboration “Baby Doll” has made its way back online 32 years after its inception.
Creation of the Song
The track was born in 1992 when Minogue met Prince backstage after his Diamonds and Pearls concert at Earls Court in June. During their meeting, she inquired about his ongoing projects, leading to an invitation to his renowned Paisley Park studio in Minneapolis.
The funk rendition that has surfaced contains lyrics confirmed by Minogue in 2018: “Let me be your doll, sugar, spice and everything nice/Let me be your heaven.”

While spending time in a London hotel room surrounded by studio gear, Prince reportedly asked, “Where are your lyrics?”
At that time, Minogue had not penned the lyrics, but prepared them for Prince to help him structure the track. A demo version was subsequently sent on cassette to her address, but it has since gone missing.
Minogue has addressed the existence of the track in various interviews over the years and stated that her record label wasn’t keen on the idea of him producing it entirely on his own, which is why she never recorded it. She also hinted that a copy might exist among Prince’s inherited materials.
This track was reportedly intended to be included as one of the Vault songs recorded between 1990 and 1992 on Diamonds and Love. The Prince Estate collection was initially set for release in the summer of 2022, but the scope was later modified to focus solely on songs from the Diamonds and Pearls era, resulting in “Baby Doll” being excluded.
This news arrives just a month after the passing of Prince’s sister, Tyka Nelson. Her death was confirmed by her son, President Nelson, to a local news outlet, as reported by the Minnesota Star Tribune. The cause of her death has yet to be revealed.
In June, Nelson shared insights from her recent conversations with Prince, noting his resemblance to family members.
She expressed her unawareness of his illness, mentioning that when she embraced him, she sensed he had lost some weight. “A couple of times I asked, ‘How are you doing?’ He didn’t engage with me about anything. It troubled me, and he was aware of that, but that was all he chose to disclose,” she shared. “I don’t want to go into details. You’ll ruin the book. Don’t you want me to make money?”
Nelson recounted that the last conversation with Prince occurred just four days before his death. “He kept dodging questions. I grew frustrated. I wanted him to “talk to me for two seconds.” He would quickly change the topic, make a joke, and we would both laugh,” she recounted.
She continued: “He asked me if I could gather more information about our family. Prince wanted me to locate Sharon’s number. I hadn’t asked about it myself. It felt like, ‘Send this photo to this person.’ FINE. For what?”
