A Diverse Shopping Experience

The iconic British rap duo will unveil a 15,000 square foot supermarket in their hometown of Croydon next month (February 1). The Saveways store, located at 102 Beddington Lane, will offer a diverse selection of products that capture the cultural richness of the area, including fresh halal meat and poultry, exotic fish, and internationally inspired baked goods.

Additionally, Saveways will provide global produce, chilled and frozen foods, along with ethnic beauty and hair care products to cater to the more than 257,000 residents of Croydon and Sutton who identify as Black, Asian, or mixed ethnicity.

“We are honored to be a partner in this venture,” stated Krept and Konan. “We are dedicated to representation in society and finding solutions. We come from underrepresented communities, making this partnership truly fitting. Saveways is a transformative project for our community, and we are eager to bring this vision to life.”

Collaboration and Community Impact

Saveways is a collaboration between south London entrepreneurs and business partner Kaisor Ali, who has a successful franchise background with ventures like Steakout and Smacks Hamburgers. This commercial endeavor is anticipated to generate over 30 job opportunities and include modern shopping features such as click and collect, online ordering, and home delivery through platforms like Uber Eats, Deliveroo, and Just Eat.

Ali also shared his enthusiasm for the launch of Saveways: “Together, we have merged our skills, networks, and passion to create a supermarket that not only serves the community but also sets a new standard for quality, inclusivity, and excellence in food within the UK. Saveways exceeds the concept of a supermarket; it symbolizes the culture, unity, and progress of our communities.”

Krept & Konan have also made significant entrepreneurial strides. In 2018, they opened their own restaurant, Crepes & Cones, which closed in 2023. Krept additionally launched a baby skincare line, Nala’s Baby, which earned three Mother & Baby Awards and is now available in major UK supermarkets.

The Saveways launch comes just six days before Krept & Konan’s highly anticipated third studio album, Young Kingz II, serving as the follow-up to their groundbreaking 2013 Guinness World Records mixtape, Young Kingz, and marking their first independent album in a decade.

In an interview with NME last November, Krept expressed that the album represents a “full circle moment” for the duo. “Becoming independent allowed us to release a project that transformed our lives. Now we return to independence over ten years after the original, with similar themes — growth, reflections on life, our current state, loss, and loved ones. This serves as a sequel to Young Kings.”

“Young Kingz II” is set for release on February 7th – pre-order the album here. Krept & Konan will hold an intimate concert at London’s OUTERNET on March 6th to celebrate the release, with tickets available here.
