In 2009, an internet remix emerged featuring pointed lyrics that many interpreted as a thinly veiled jab at BeyoncĂ©. One memorable line included, “Your vision is cloudy if you think that you are the best / You can dance, you can sing, but she needs to move left, on the left“.
Impact on Hilson’s Career
The backlash against Hilson for the remix significantly impacted her public image, with many believing her career took a downturn as a result.
In a recent Breakfast Club interview, Hilson addressed these challenges. She clarified that the remix was not her idea, claiming her producer, Dow Don, was responsible and emphasized that the contentious lyrics were not written by her.

Hilson noted that she disagreed with the “dirty” tone of the lyrics but felt compelled to go along with it, stating, “I forgave myself, but I will never forget how much this moment cost me.”
Esther Dean, the songwriter for Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, and Katy Perry, later acknowledged her role in writing the verse and apologized to Hilson in the comments below the interview, describing the lyrics as “childish” and not very good.
Dean also mentioned that she wrote a verse with Hilson, prompting Hilson to respond, “You used the word co-author. I rewrote three lines in your verse.” She clarified that her contribution was about a boy and not a diss against Queen Bey, expressing frustration at Dean’s silence on the matter for 16 years while she faced the brunt of the criticism.

Beyoncé has yet to comment on this matter. Hilson shared with People that she has never spoken to Beyoncé regarding this: “I always wondered what they told her about it if they told her the truth. I don’t know if this will happen someday, but I dreamed about discussing it with her.”
Hilson is now gearing up to release her third studio album, “Weeed to Talk,” on April 18.
Meanwhile, Beyoncé is scheduled to perform in major concerts across the USA, UK, and Europe, starting at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on April 28. See the full list of dates and find remaining tickets here.
