Film Collaboration and Release Update

At the start of 2022, it was announced that Kendrick Lamar would create a comedy film in collaboration with the creators of South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker. The following year, it was confirmed that Parker would also direct the film in addition to producing it.

Since then, little information has surfaced about the film, aside from its previously scheduled release date on July 4 of this year. However, this has recently changed. According to a report by Diversity, the film is now pushed back to March 20 of next year.

Details and Possible Reasons for Delay

While the cause for the delay remains undisclosed, it is notable that Lamar will be on tour throughout Europe and the UK from early July to August with SZA, likely impacting his ability to promote the film during this time. Prior to his European and UK dates, he will also be touring in the United States.

Details about the film, including its title and cast, are scarce. The only confirmed actor so far is Dave, who is associated with Lamar’s label, and the plot is said to revolve around a young Black man navigating the complexities of his identity between the past and present, including ownership of slaves.

In a five-star review of “GNX,” Kendrick Lamar’s Kyann-Sian Williams wrote for NME: “GNX” begins with such an ominous tone that does not necessarily leave. But Lamar directs what can be interpreted as hatred and negativity into a learning moment, compelling you to rely on the purest emotions known to man: love. In a year that started with so much poison, Kendrick Lamar offers the antidote through GNX.
