Kanye West faces lawsuit for discrimination
Kanye West is being sued for discrimination by a former Yeezy employee, who alleges that he sent text messages saying “Hail Hitler” to a Jewish employee.
Details of the lawsuit
The woman who initiated the lawsuit worked as a marketing specialist for West’s fashion brand, as detailed in documents obtained by TMZ. She claimed she was terminated after confronting the rapper about his anti-Semitic remarks in the workplace.
According to the lawsuit, when she and another Jewish employee were added to a group chat, West allegedly welcomed her by stating, “Welcome on the first day of work in Hitler.”
Furthermore, she asserted that West sent her a message stating, “I am a Nazi,” which reportedly occurred after she recommended the artist address the backlash following his album cover that referenced anti-Semitism. The cover included lyrics such as “And I’m still crazy, bipolar, anti-Semite/ and I’m still a king,” which he played at a party.
West purportedly told her to “cut nonsense” and “fuck from here” during a conversation. She further claimed he called her a “heartless sociopath” and instructed her to “shut up on crap, bitch.”
Other alleged statements from West included derogatory comments such as “hail Hitler”, “you are ugly, damn”, and “Fuck you bitch.” In another message, he referenced his controversial 2022 Twitter post about going “Death Con 3 for the Jewish people.”
Despite reporting this behavior to her manager, she claims she was dismissed shortly afterward. West allegedly challenged her, saying, “sue me, his banal ass of a bitch.” She is now seeking damages for emotional distress and humiliation.
Carney Shegerian, the woman’s lawyer, stated that “West conducted a ruthless and deliberate campaign of anti-Semitism and misogyny against her.”
She continued, “His appalling treatment of women and fixation on Nazism, as evident in his offensive texts where he repeatedly identifies with Hitler, underscores his motives. We must stop justifying Ye’s behavior. As a father, husband, and employer, he must be held accountable. You dared to sue my client, and we will see you in court.”
Recently, West posted a series of anti-Semitic tweets, claiming he “loves Hitler” and identifying himself as a “Nazi”. He also apologized to the Jewish community for previous anti-Semitic remarks.
Following this, his X/Twitter account was deactivated after a series of bizarre and controversial rants, and his talent agency dropped him.
Shopify stated that the West Yeezy website was taken down due to concerns about fraud and not solely because of a controversial Swastika T-shirt. Nonetheless, the company condemned the product, labeling it “vile, disgusting, and unforgivable.”
According to sources (via Logics), many Jewish employees at Shopify felt uneasy and unsafe while the store remained online for an extended period. This issue was reportedly highlighted by an employee in a Slack channel.
The white T-shirt displayed a large black swastika on the front and was marked as “HH-01” – potentially a reference to the phrase “Heil Hitler.” It was priced at $20.
Last November, a lawsuit from a former West employee accused the rapper of openly exhibiting anti-Semitism towards his staff, detailing accusations of him making “anti-Semitic tirades” that were described as a “daily phenomenon.”
After his initial anti-Semitic remarks surfaced in 2022, West lost partnerships with brands such as Adidas and Gap, and was stripped of an honorary degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Later, Adidas donated the profits from the remaining Yeezy shoe inventory to organizations combating anti-Semitism.
