The artist formerly known as Ye was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2016. However, the outspoken rapper has now rejected this diagnosis, attributing his experiences to autism instead.
On Download with Justin Labo, West shared insights from his wife, Bianca Tsenkori, who suggested he should seek a new diagnosis: “My wife took me because she said, ‘Something about your personality does not feel that it was bipolar; I saw bipolar.’”

He continued to explain how his autism diagnosis helps him comprehend some of his past erratic behaviors: “Autism leads you to rain. ‘Oh, dude, I wear this Trump’s hat because I like Trump in general.’ And when people tell you not to do this, you just get to one point. And this is my problem.”
“When fans tell me to make my album a certain way, I will do it the opposite way. It is so difficult for them, because as an adult, you cannot tell him,” he elaborated. “You cannot take control of his bank account. You cannot control what I say on Twitter. A constant feeling is not controlled; it has gone out of control.”
Kanye West also mentioned that he has stopped taking medication for bipolar disorder, believing it hinders his creativity. “It is worth it to build up while you get creativity,” he stated.
Grammy Controversy
The mention of autism comes shortly after Kanye and Bianca caused a stir on the red carpet at the 67th Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles last weekend (February 2).
Bianca arrived with Ye wearing a fur coat, which she then removed to reveal an almost completely transparent dress showcasing her figure. The couple left the event shortly after, with West later confirming that they exited voluntarily and were not escorted out.
Following the event, West claimed that he and Bianca had “defeated Grammy” after their daring fashion statement at the ceremony. This was not the couple’s first appearance in the headlines, as the police in Venice investigated an “obscene” public incident involving them on a boat in 2023.
Reports indicate that Bianca will not face any legal repercussions for her transparent outfit at the Grammys. While there were suggestions it might be considered indecent exposure, sources from TMZ confirmed that no legal action will be taken due to the Grammys being a private event, and no complaints were filed with the police.
