Kanye West’s Controversial Take on Kendrick Lamar
Kanye West expressed his dislike for Kendrick Lamar’s music following the release of the highly anticipated Playboi Carti album.
Playboi Carti’s Album Release Delay
The record “Music” was expected to drop yesterday (March 14) at midnight, but Carti initially postponed the release by three hours due to issues with selective permits.
The album features 30 songs and includes collaborations with notable artists such as Travis Scott, Future, The Weeknd, Ty Dolla $ign, and Young Thug. You can view the complete tracklist here. Frequent collaborator Lil Uzi Vert also appears on Music, marking their first collaboration in seven years since their joint work on Carti’s 2018 debut.
Additionally, Carti teamed up with Skepta and Lamar on the track “Not Loke We,” featuring Mojo Jojo, Backdoor, and Good Credit.
On Friday morning (March 14), West—now legally known as Ye—shared his thoughts about Lamar’s involvement in Carti’s recent efforts. “I do not like Kendrick Lamar’s music,” he wrote on X/Twitter. “He is really good, but I didn’t need to hear him on the Carti album.”

Kanye West’s Controversial Remarks and Actions
As reported by Billboard, this comment comes just a month after West claimed that Lamar was the only rapper who could outshine him. “If you are rapping against Kendrick, you will lose,” he said recently. “This person does it. You know, in Street Fighter, you get Chun-Li; you get a certain move, and whatever, you cannot defeat this thing?”
In other news, West has faced criticism in recent months for selling a white T-shirt emblazoned with a large swastika emblem referred to as “HH-01,” which was linked to the phrase “Heil Hitler.”
Ultimately, the website was shut down by Shopify, although the company later clarified that the action was taken due to potential fraud, not solely for selling the swastika T-shirt. Shopify condemned the item, labeling it “vile, disgusting, and unforgivable.”
Earlier this year, Charlamagne suggested that West’s behavior and public antics stem from his “envy” of Kendrick Lamar’s current success.
Subsequently, West took to X to state that he had been contemplating the T-shirt design for over eight years. This came amid a series of incredibly controversial posts where he reevaluated his past anti-Semitic remarks and continued to identify as a “Nazi.”
He also mentioned, “I love Hitler,” while praising billionaire Elon Musk as “the most lit man once on Twitter,” following Musk’s accusations of Nazism during Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration.
Despite this, the contentious rapper seemed to retract his previous statements, stating on X that after further contemplation, he “realized that I was not a Nazi.” However, just days later, he posted images of swastikas on his X page.
Since then, he has hinted at reviving his Sunday choir and shared a photo of a KKK robe on social media.
Meanwhile, Lamar, who has yet to respond to West’s comment, recently made history as the first solo rap act to perform a full show during the Super Bowl halftime, and his set is now regarded as one of the most iconic. Despite recent criticisms, West has previously praised Lamar’s performances, referring to him as “beloved,” akin to Michael Jackson’s renowned speech in 1993.
