Judge Rules in Favor of Roger Waters: Defending the “Dark Side of the Documentary Film”

Judge Rules on Roger Waters

The judge ruled that Roger Waters is exposed to the director The dark side of Roger Waters. After the approval, he is “lying, the barking Zionist mouthpiece.”

Investigative journalist John Ware sued the co-founder of Pink Floyd and the Al Jazeera media company for slander after Waters labeled Ware “a false, lighting Zionist mouthpiece” and accused him of “admiration for the Palestinians’ genocide” during an interview at Al Jazeera.

Documentary and Slander Case

Ware produced and presented The dark side of Roger Waters, which compiles various incidents of the alleged anti-Semitism directed against the musician. Waters had previously dismissed the project as a “fragile, irreconcilable piece of propaganda.”

Today (February 25), Judge Jennifer Yidi concluded that Waters’ statements were of factual nature and not honest. The decision will move the trial forward during the proceedings (for Hollywood Reporter). The court rejected the musician’s argument that his statements were merely his opinion regarding the actions of Israeli forces in Gaza and other issues.

“The statements are slanderous by common law. Although I would agree that the first defendant’s link to genocide expresses his opinion about actions by Israeli forces in Gaza (which he has previously referenced), stating that the applicant positively supports this as a “genocide” is making a statement of fact,” the judge wrote.

The press secretary of the campaign against anti-Semitism stated: “We welcome this judgment regarding the meaningless rants of Roger Waters after John Ware’s production of our documentary film, The dark side of Roger Waters, which exposes Waters’ history of inflammatory behavior towards the Jewish people” (via Anti-Semitism.org).

They continued, “Those who claim that accusations of anti-Semitism are merely ‘genocide chic’ are perpetuating a modernized version of the trope that asserts those claiming anti-Semitism are trying to silence criticism of Israel. Jeremy Corbyn previously attempted this, and it does not hold water. This narrative has long been employed by individuals like Mr. Waters, and the time has come for him to face the consequences of his words.”

Waters has publicly supported Palestine while frequently being accused of anti-Semitism, claiming his criticism is directed at the state of Israel, not Judaism as a whole.

Previously, he accused Israel of “misusing the term anti-Semitism to intimidate people like me into silence,” and back in November, he suggested that “fish” attacks committed by Hamas could be a “false flag operation” on October 7.

Former bandmate, David Gilmour, rebuked him with accusations of anti-Semitism last year. Gilmour’s wife, Polly Samson, also criticized Waters on Twitter, accusing him of being “anti-Semitic for (his) rotten core.”

She added: “Also an apologist for Putin, liars, thieves, hypocrites, sycophants, narcissists. Enough of your nonsense.” Gilmour echoed Samson’s tweet, affirming that “every word (is) clearly true.”

Waters responded, declaring Samson’s comments to be “incendiary and wildly inaccurate,” and he maintained that he “completely refutes them.” He admitted that he “takes advice on his position” concerning these accusations.

Samson’s remarks followed Waters’ interview with the German newspaper Berliner Zeitung, where he shared his views on Israel and the Russian-Ukrainian war.

According to a translated version of the interview on Waters’ website, the musician was asked if he still believes, as he claimed in the past, that the state of Israel is comparable to Nazi Germany. He responded, “Yes, of course. The Israelis commit genocide, just as Great Britain did in our colonial period.”

In May 2023, Waters faced backlash for a controversial concert in Germany, criticized by the US State Department as “deeply offensive to the Jewish people.”

This criticism arose after Waters appeared on stage wearing a black raincoat adorned with a symbol resembling a swastika. At the time, he defended this choice as a statement against fascism, injustice, and fanaticism, labeling the backlash as “insincere and politically motivated.”
