Joseph Quinn Set to Portray George Harrison in Upcoming Beatles Biopic

Joseph Quinn Cast as George Harrison

Joseph Quinn (known for Gladiator 2 and Stranger Things) is reportedly set to portray George Harrison in the upcoming Beatles biopic directed by Sam Mendes.

Latest Casting Developments

According to a report by Deadline on Thursday (Dec. 12), Quinn is emerging as the leading candidate for the role based on industry insights.

This news follows earlier announcements where Gladiator 2 Director Ridley Scott mentioned that Paul Mescal is cast as Paul McCartney, and Ringo Starr himself seemed to confirm that Barry Keoghan will portray the drummer.

In June, it was reported that Mendes had also cast Harris Dickinson to play John Lennon and Charlie Rowe to play Harrison. However, Deadline clarified that official deals for these roles have yet to be finalized.

Dickinson commented on casting rumors, stating, “it would be great to do it.” He added, “I think the idea of Sam teaming up to do something like this would be incredibly exciting. Obviously, John Lennon is a very difficult role to play, quite a formidable force to attempt. That would be cool.”

Mendes, known for directing 1917, Ghost, and Skyfall, previously shared that he anticipates working on four Beatles films until “sometime in mid-2028.” Information from Product List suggests that filming for the first movie will commence in London in July 2025.

Quinn and Mescal recently appeared together in Gladiator 2, which also starred Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, and Connie Nielsen. Quinn just completed filming for Fantastic Four: First Steps alongside Pascal.

In a three-star review of Gladiator 2 in NME, Alex Flood remarked: “With his strong chin and smoldering energy, Mescal looks every bit the successor to Crowe.”

“Denzel Washington’s delightfully mannered slave owner Macrinus strives for political power, providing a powerful supporting role. And Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) and Fred Hechinger (White Lotus) succeeded in making their spoiled brat despots sufficiently hateful.”
