Billie Eilish and Finneas took the time to teach first graders how to “write a hit song” in a new video.

Creating a Unique Song with Students

The “Birds Of A Feather” singer, her brother and co-star appeared as the latest guests on the digital series. Celebrity Substitute where they stopped by Garvanza Elementary School in Los Angeles to create a hit song with a group of first graders called “I'm Just a Polar Bear.”

Upon arriving in class, Eilish and Finneas were greeted with applause and excitement, with one student saying, “Am I dreaming now?” and another noted that he saw the singer on TV when she had red hair.

Finneas then played a couple of different chords on the piano to begin the process of creating his song. Eventually, the class and two Grammy Award-winning artists created “I'm Just A Polar Bear,” a song about a lonely polar bear. The song has the words: “I'm just a polar bear / but no one cares and it's just not fair.” in the chorus, but fortunately throughout the song the polar bear makes a friend.

Finneas also took the time to explain to the students what slant rhyme is after one of the children’s sentences led to the creation of the text: “But I made friends with the snowman/And that’s not the end, I’m getting better.”

“Kids are so deep and ruthless,” Eilish told the host and Recessive therapy creator Julian Shapiro-Barnum. She also offered advice to future guests on the show, sharing, “I think let the kids do their own thing.”

“Kids, no matter how young they are, have a cool, developed taste in art,” Finneas shared. “This is my conclusion. As for Billie's first album, there are no swear words on the entire album. I'm proud of it because I think you could be five years old and like this album.”

In other news, Eilish recently opened up about the special moment when she heard her fans sing her song “The Greatest” back to her for the first time.

Eilish is currently on the Hit Me Hard And Soft Tour in support of her third album of the same name.

Eilish's “Birds Of A Feather” was recently named the 12th best song of 2024 by the magazine NME. Her album “Hit Me Hard And Soft” was also named in NME list of the best albums of 2024, ranked ninth.
