Johni Unveils Debut Album “Things I Leat After”

Album Announcement

Joni unveiled her debut album “Things I Left Behind,” set for release through Hand In Hive and Ked Scales on April 11. The London-based songwriter of American descent also shared the title track from the recording.

Exploring Growth and Loss

The new single delves into themes of growth and loss, accompanied by striking drum sounds and circular guitars crafted by Jackson Firlik. “This is a reflection of how we are all composed of things that we have lost and left behind: people, places, experiences,” Joni explains. “While writing the lyrics, I was flooded with vivid images from my past, almost like light when journeying through a tunnel. Small memories and significant moments alike came rushing back—scraping my knee in childhood, falling in love for the first time, experiencing heartbreak, taking mushrooms with my childhood best friend, lying on the grass at night. It is painful to acknowledge that these things can’t be physically retained, but ultimately, it is comforting to know that they are a part of you in some way.”

Musical Influences

The ten-track album was created after Joni relocated to London from Los Angeles, following the breakdown of her long-term relationship with a music collaborator. Drawing inspiration from artists like Feist, Sparklehorse, and Daniel Johnston, the recording also features the previously released single “Avalanches.”
