Legacy of the Sex Pistols
One studio album by the legendary punk group was released in 1977 and is regarded as one of the most influential records ever. The band split just months later, and by early 1978, the original lineup disappeared amidst a tour in the United States.
Lidon, formerly known as Johnny Rotten during his time with the group, went on to form “Public Image Ltd.” but has frequently faced inquiries from Pistols fans regarding the possibility of a sequel to “not to mention the fact that Bolkov, part 2.”
In a recent interview with Magazine magazine, he characterized his fan base as “very demanding,” stating, “They will capture you, and they will not let this vision of you. You cannot live your life in accordance with wonderful illusions about you. You just can’t.”
Future Endeavors and Reflections
“You must be true to yourself. For me, I always stated that I had an extensive music collection, which influenced me from many different directions, even those that completely contradict each other,” he elaborated.
He advised those still wishing for a sequel, “Do not pay attention to Bollock, part 2” – it’s a response from the idiot. What are you not listening?”
Meanwhile, the Sex Pistols, featuring Frank Carter on vocals, embarked on a British tour last fall, following two intimate London shows where they performed “not to mention the blavans” in its entirety.
They have since announced further performances scheduled for 2025, including the Download Festival and the Teenage Cancer Trust sessions at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Guitarist Steve Jones has also indicated that the Sex Pistols will tour the United States.
Jones stated that he and his bandmates had not spoken to Lidon for 17 years and claimed they “should not even ask” him to join the reunion show. This estrangement deepened after Lidon lost a court case concerning the use of Sex Pistols’ music in Danny Boyle’s 2022 biographical mini-series, GunField.
In related news, Lidon recently shared insights about how the upcoming Public Image Ltd tour and new “hoarse” music help him cope with loss. “Sorrow is energy,” he remarked, referencing the cult track from 1986 “Rise” that states, “Anger is energy.” He added, “It can be channeled, or you can allow it to consume you. The latter option is not appealing to me.”
Lidon also participated in a quiz for NME, where he nostalgically spoke about declining collaborations with Daft Punk, the “frightening” reaction Kate Bush had to a track he wrote for her, and expressed his view that he finds Taylor Swift “incredibly boring” and does not like Lady Gaga “as a person.”
Meanwhile, Pil is set to embark on a full tour of the UK and Ireland in May. Visit tickets here for more information. The band recently announced plans to release a “long-lost” alternative mix of “The first edition” for the upcoming “Record Store Day.”
