John Boyega Inquires About Star Wars’ “Growth Level” Following Its “Many Setbacks” with Jay Jay Abrams

John Boyega’s Vision for Finn

John Boyega inquired with J.J. Abrams about the height of his Star Wars character, Finn, who “made a lot of falls.”

Boyega appeared in three Star Wars films: The Force Awakens (2015), The Last Jedi (2017), and Skywalker’s Uprising (2019) – with the first and last entries of the sequel trilogy directed by Abrams.

Boyega’s Request for Character Development

When Abrams returned to direct Skywalker’s Uprising, Boyega had a specific request – Finn needed more depth as a character. During his panel at Emerald City Comic Con earlier this month, he shared: “I fell a lot in Star Wars. I always fell in the field. Come on, guys, be honest with me. You know, I always fell. So, I asked JJ: ‘Can I stay on my feet a little longer?’

The actor also desired more moments of triumph for Finn. According to Popverse, he stated: “There was an evolution from The Last Jedi to Skywalker’s Uprising that JJ and I discussed adding. I told JJ: ‘I’m tired of eating dirt; I know how to move. My lightsaber skills are undeniable. Get me off the ground.’

“I remember how JJ approached me and said, ‘John, we have a sequence with Chewbacca running down the corridors taking out those attack ships.’ And I replied, ‘Yes, this is enough.’ It was a great moment and something I truly enjoyed.”

NME awarded Skywalker’s Uprising three stars in their 2019 issue, stating: “Most viewers will find this film a delightful experience. It’s thrilling and incredibly funny, featuring C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) who delivers zinger after zinger in a standout performance, complemented by a strong showing from its lead actor, particularly John Boyega as a stormtrooper.”

“Almost all questions have been answered, and Skywalker feels quite fulfilling as the final chapter. It took 42 years to get here, but (for now) the circle is finally complete.”

Upcoming Star Wars News

In other Star Wars news, last month, the first trailer for the second season of Star Wars series Andor was released, ahead of its premiere in the UK on April 23. The first season of Andor takes place five years prior to the events of The Fraudster One, and the clip suggests that there will be plenty of action in the new season.
