Joei Ramon: The Subject of a New Children’s Book
Joei Ramon should become the subject of a new children’s book.
The 51-page book with pictures, Gabba Gabba We Accept You: A Wonderful Story About Joei Ramon, narrates the life of the late frontman of the Ramones, who passed away in 2001 after battling cancer.
A Heartwarming Story of Growth
According to the synopsis, it tells “the story of a young child who grew up to become the hero of punk. The subtle moments when Jeffrey Ross Hyman survived before transforming into Joei Ramon tell of conversations with young people navigating the complexities of growing up, embracing individuality, and celebrating uniqueness.”
“Jay Ruttenberg & Lucinda Schreiber beautifully cover the story with simple language, lyrical graphic design, and vibrant illustrations, uncovering unexpected depths on each page.”
6/27, Gabba Gabba, we accept you is a children’s book with pictures by Jay Ruttenberg and Lucinda Schreiber, sharing the tale of a young child who became the hero of punk, namely, Joei Ramona, affirming that everyone has a rightful place in the world.

The book is set to be released on June 27 through The Record Label Drag City, and can be pre-ordered here.
Author Ruttenberg shared with Consequence: “My daughter has just turned 11 years old, so I’ve spent the past few years in the world of children’s books. I think I’ve read her 97 books about Abraham Lincoln and 12,984 about Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
“I realized that many life lessons I aimed to share were not taught in my family or school, but rather through punk ethos: the importance of being your own person, following your own compass, and celebrating uniqueness. The Ramones, especially Joe, seemed like the perfect choice for this.”
Meanwhile, Joei Ramona was featured in the Netflix documentary I Slept with Joei Ramon, starring Pete Davidson.
However, a legal dispute emerged with the estate of Johnny Ramone, presented by Joei Ramone’s brother Mickey Lee regarding a biographical film.
The allegation claimed that Lee’s biographical film was being developed without authorization based on a “one-sided reading of the Ramones history.”
Johnny Ramone’s widow, Linda Cummings-Ramone, criticized her attempts to halt the biographical film as “unreasonable and flimsy.”
Haiman later filed a lawsuit against her for allegedly “exploiting” the Ramones’ legacy.
In other news, it was reported earlier this month that Thurston Moore and members of Sonic Youth are collaborating on a Ramones cover.
This collaboration, which is already in progress, will be featured on the “Future Ramones Redux” and “Best of Ramones Redux,” curating albums set for release by “Magnetic Eye Records” in early June.
Ramones Redux will feature select acts fully covering the iconic 1976 album of the same name, while “Best of Ramones Redux” will showcase a collection of the band’s greatest hits.
