In an interview with Classic Rock Magazine in the January 2025 issue, Satriani, who first became a guitar icon after working as an instructor for musicians like Steve Vai, Larry Lalonde, Rick Hunolt, Kirk Hammett, Andy Timmons, and Charlie Hunter, reflected on the “Smells Like Teen Spirit” creators, stating he was “really happy with those Nirvana records.”

He highlighted Cobain’s abilities further, declaring that the legendary frontman “was a great guitar player.”

“You go back and watch Nirvana videos and realize this guy plays everything he’s supposed to play. He doesn’t look at what he’s playing, so it’s obvious he really knows the instrument,” he remarked. “And he plays with one of the greatest drummers of all time (Dave Grohl), so it wouldn’t work if he wasn’t a good guitar player.”
