Inside the Film and Its Characters

Jeremy Allen White stars as Springsteen, who faces challenges while recording his sixth album, 1982’s Nebraska. Landau is regarded by many as having significantly influenced the music icon both artistically and personally.

“It was honestly one of the greatest work experiences I’ve ever had,” Strong shared in an interview with Deadline. “(Landau) has a lot to do with who Bruce is.” He also highlighted the access he and his co-star had to the real individuals they portrayed.

“Bruce and John really opened up the kimono to Jeremy and me,” he explained. “As I learned more about them and observed their lives together, it became evident that this was truly a love story between these two men. John significantly aided Bruce during a pivotal moment in his life.”

Regarding the film, he added: “It’s really a story about artistic authenticity in an increasingly synthetic world.”

Strong also recently portrayed another notable mentor, starring alongside Sebastian Stan in the film Student, which depicts the early years of Donald Trump (Stan) as he learns from the tough New York lawyer Roy Cohn (Strong).

While both characters serve as mentors, Strong noted that Cohn stands apart. “He stands alone,” he remarked. “He has been labeled one of the worst people of the 20th century. It’s challenging to pinpoint one descriptive term for him since he’s so paradoxical. That complexity made him an intriguing dramatic character.”

He went on to explain the motivations of the men depicted in the film. “Influence is the defining virtue for Roy and Donald Trump, as they believe that if you know people and can manipulate the powers that be, you can essentially shape the world in your own image,” he stated.

Strong was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance in Student, which is poised for potential Oscar recognition. Deliver Me Out of Nowhere is set to be released sometime in 2025.
