Details of the Allegation
The woman who accused Sean Jay-Z Carter and Sean “Didi” Combs of sexual violence after the 2000 Video Music Awards was recorded acknowledging that Jay-Z “had nothing” to do with any sexual actions and that her lawyer “pushed” her into proceeding with the trial.
Lawsuit Dismissal and Investigation
According to an ABC News report, a lawsuit against Carter and Combs was dismissed with prejudice, meaning it cannot be revived.
The recorded conversation features a woman known anonymously as Jane Dow and two private investigators linked to Jay-Z. Both ABC News and Katya Stone obtained excerpts from the recording.
“He was just there, but he had nothing to do with any sexual actions toward you. It was strictly…,” one investigator asked.
“Yes,” Dow responded, adding that her lawyer, Tony Buzby, “pushed” her to move forward with the case against Carter.
When another investigator inquired if Buzby was the one who suggested that Carter had a role in the alleged attack, she replied, “He was the one who pushed me to go forward with him. With Jay-Z.”
“Buzby did?” the investigators asked. “Yes,” the woman confirmed.
Nonetheless, Buzby has denied these allegations, calling the recording “manufactured” and asserting that the notion he pushed her to file a lawsuit is “obviously a lie.”
In a statement to Katya Stone, he stated: “Her position is very clear and has never changed. The tape is a piece of fabrication. Investigators tormented, pursued, and deceived this poor woman and took what she said out of context by recording her secretly.”
“She stands by her claim that Jay-Z was at the party and that he attacked her. She has never wavered on this point,” he added.
In response, Carter’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, has refuted the claim that Jay-Z ever met Jane Dow, stating, “The tape speaks for itself.” Speaking with ABC News, he remarked, “She says that Carter did not. This is, in fact, a lie, and the sole reason Carter is involved is due to this push for publicity.”
Jane Dow has asserted her confidence in her claims but refrained from pursuing the case due to “fear of intimidation and retaliation from Jay-Z and his fans.”
Jay-Z is now suing her and Buzby for “false and malicious” accusations, alleging they took part in an “evil conspiracy” to extort him by fabricating “wildly terrible” statements about rape.
