Final Show Details and Special Guests

Earlier this year, it was announced that Black Sabbath will perform their final show on July 5. The epic event titled “Back to Black” will feature the iconic lineup of Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward, together for the first time in over two decades.

Metal legends will also be joined by prominent stars and special guests, such as Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Lamb of God, Mastodon, Alice in Chains, Halestorm, Gojira, and many others. Sharon Osbourne described the concert as “a celebration of the genre and the pioneers who created it” in her earlier conversation with NME.

“Usually, these kinds of events are done posthumously—so it’s wonderful that these artists can be alive to appreciate it,” she continued. She also confirmed that Jack Black and his son will join Tom Morello’s son for a rendition from School of Rock. “It’s incredible to see that the children of these legends are still influenced by Black Sabbath. We are here 53 years later, and it has been passed down through generations,” she added.

Momoa’s Involvement and Musical Influences

The event will be overseen by the director of Momoa’s Minecraft film, which he described as “the greatest show in the world.” “When Sharon asked me to participate, I was amazed,” he remarked. Momoa intended to attend Black Sabbath’s last tour show in 2017 after filming Aquaman, but due to unforeseen circumstances at home, he had to miss it. “I was really upset about that, but family comes first,” he expressed. In 2020, when Ozzy Osbourne released his solo album “Ordinary Man,” Momoa was asked to join for promotional events.

“Now I have the opportunity to be part of this concert, which feels surreal,” he added. “I’ve already requested tickets, and I’m just thrilled to be there.”

In a separate interview, Momoa mentioned that one album he continuously returns to is Black Sabbath’s 1970 self-titled record. “It introduced me to everything. There are so many incredible songs that stick in your mind. Then, they followed up with Paranoid just six months later. Two masterpieces in one year! I’m a creature of habit; I still listen to those songs daily.”

Momoa also mentioned that he picked up a new technique while working with metal colleagues. “He chooses a musician and then listens to their entire catalog in order. He did this with Billy Joel while on set for Minecraft film, and I think it’s a brilliant way to connect with an artist.”

In addition to Momoa, Tom Morello is set to serve as the music director for the concert in Birmingham this summer. “He is incredibly knowledgeable about different music genres, especially metal. His passion for his craft makes him a fantastic collaborator. The lineup he has put together is phenomenal,” Sharon Osbourne stated earlier this year, confirming appearances from members of Limp Bizkit, Korn, Sleep Token, Ghost, and others.

Morello also teased unexpected performances from “huge superstars” during the event. “When we first sat down together, we had a very simple goal—creating the greatest day in heavy metal history,” he explained. “The aim is to genuinely acknowledge the significance of this band in a way that the entire world will remember.”

The Minecraft Movie is now in theaters.
