Appointment of Jason Fainberg
Independent music publisher from Los Angeles, Cobalt, has appointed industry veteran Jason Fainberg as senior vice president and leader of the recently launched Kosig Music Publishing platform.
Kosig’s Mission
Cobalt claims to represent, on average, 35% of the 100 best songs and albums in the USA and Great Britain. The company launched Kosig in February to provide new independent artists, songwriters, and producers with tools for collecting royalties from publishers worldwide.
Kosig was created to address a staggering $1 billion in publishing royalties that, according to Cobalt, have become increasingly difficult to manage each year. The platform leverages the global Kobalt infrastructure, offering an “optimized, intuitive experience that makes publishing simple, effective, and transparent.”
Kosig reports it has already attracted applications from creators in 88 countries, representing catalogs with billions of streams. Membership applications are currently open at Kosignmusic.com.
Jason Fainberg’s Background
Fainberg brings extensive experience in artist development and technology. He previously served as a managing partner at 138 Strategic, where he advised on strategy, technology, and direct involvement in FAN. Earlier, he held the position of senior vice president of marketing at Universal Music Group and led artist marketing at Pandora’s Amplifier platform.
Cobalt CEO Laurent Hubert stated, “Jason has built a successful career at the nexus of artist development, relationships, and technology. His experience, track record, and deep industry connections make him uniquely qualified to lead Kosig as we continue expanding our client base worldwide.”
Fainberg joins an executive team that includes David Wate, who has transitioned from chief of staff at Kobalt to operations at Kosign, and Jacob Floor, who was promoted to vice president of platform growth and brand strategy at Kosign.
Commenting on his appointment, Fainberg expressed, “I am passionate about everything that is Kosig. I am excited to work with David and Jacob to continue delivering on Kosig’s promise to the independent artist and songwriting community. I also want to thank Laurent and Jeannette Perez (President of Cobalt and CCO) for believing in me to lead this important and innovative division.”
