An Engaging Performance
Michel Zauner and her band performed a track, illuminated by dark neon blue light in front of a sign that read “Melancholy Inn.” This track is from their new album “For Melancholy Brunettes (and Sad Women),” released last month.
In a contemplative and tender performance, they captured the inner darkness of the song, echoing the haunting refrain: “All my ghosts are real / all my ghosts are my house“

Insights on the Album
Earlier, discussing the song, the artist mentioned: “Since I was a young girl, I’ve harbored obsessive thoughts about my relatives facing tragic deaths. When someone is late, or doesn’t respond to texts, or even just gazes from the balcony, my mind spirals. According to me, such thoughts stem from a deep-seated concern.”
Reviewing “Melancholy Brunettes (and Sad Women),” NME awarded the album four stars, appreciating the nuanced artistry of Michel Zauner: “The delightfully nuanced spelling of the songs shines on this bold, beautifully crafted fourth album of indie rockers.”
Zauner recently shared with NME about the album’s title inspiration: “It’s taken from a quote in a book by John Chiver. Do you think it serves sad indie girls? I wanted a verbose title that would indicate this album is very different from the ‘anniversary’… it’s a narrative, lyrically focused record.”
The group is set to embark on a world tour, with stops in cities including Austin, Atlanta, Charlotte, Detroit, Boston, Brooklyn, and more, before heading to Europe and Great Britain. The tour will conclude in the U.S., culminating in Minneapolis on September 9. Check the full list of tour dates here and purchase any remaining tickets in the U.S. here. They also performed during the first weekend of Coachella, including an unexpected cover of Gorillaz’s “On Melancholy Hill.”
