Monae’s Shocking Performance at the Grammy Party

Monae took a stand against the rapper during the performance at the Grammy party. As Nelly’s hit “Hot in Herre” echoed through the venue, Monae exclaimed: “Damn, no, Nelly. I used to like you, but then you decided to play for Donald Trump.”

She continued, “I care about women, I care about Latin Americans, I care about the Spanish community. I care about Mexicans, I care about the LGBTQ+ community. You sold out. I used to think you were cool, but now you look like a bastard.”

This incident follows Nelly and Carrie Underwood’s participation in Trump’s inauguration celebration. Subsequent to their performances, both faced backlash with Underwood’s streaming numbers dropping by 6 percent, while Nelly attracted 1.54 million streams on the inauguration day, down from 1.63 million the previous week.

In the wake of criticism, Nelly defended his decision, stating, “I didn’t know I had to agree with your political choices. If you’re paying attention to what I’m doing, this shouldn’t even be an argument. He’s the President. He won.”

“I don’t do it for money. I do it because it’s an honor. I respect the office, no matter who holds the position. Just like our brothers and sisters go to war and risk their lives for those in power, I can surely be there for those in office,” he added.

At another point in the Grammys, Dzhanel Monae joined Stevie Wonder for a tribute to the late, great Quincy Jones. During her segment, she performed Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough,” which was produced by Jones.

The biggest winners of the night were Kendrick Lamar and Beyoncé.
