Jamila Jamil reminisced about the moment she “destroyed” Glastonbury for Benedict Cumberbatch.
Reflecting on a Difficult Time

The former star of Good Place and mental health advocate shared a light-hearted joke during a recent interview with Palom Faith for the latest episode of the Crazy Sad Bad Podcast.
During the conversation, Jamil discussed some of the challenges she faced recently, noting that her publication of Glastonbury 2024 took place during “one of the saddest” periods of her life, which was marked by the unexpected and “sudden” passing of a friend.
While attending the farmer’s event, Jamil was in a vulnerable state and became emotional during the spectacular Coldplay headline at the pyramid stage. She recalls this happening while she was next to MCU actor Benedict Cumberbatch.
“Now I have become one of those who cry to ‘Fix You’ by Coldplay,” Jamil shared. “I was uncontrollable at Glastonbury. And I ruined it for Benedict Cumberbatch, who was next to me – a person I do not know.”
“So he’s just trying to listen to the song, and here I am – ‘ughhhh!’”
Understanding Grief and Emotional Health
Later in the interview, Jamil reflected with Faith on how her partner James Blake’s speech at last year’s event helped her realize that she “truly checked in with life” as she processed her grief.
“I tend to not register emotions in my brain – I just push my feelings into my body,” she added. “I rarely recognize when I’m depressed.”
This isn’t the first occasion Jamil has opened up about her struggles. Last year, the She-Hulk star candidly discussed her battle with anorexia, detailing how laxative use “destroyed” her body.
She made these remarks on Kelly Ripa’s podcast Let’s Talk About the Camera, where she shared the emotional toll of her health issues.
“I ruined my kidney, my liver, my digestive system, my heart. And more recently, I found out that I destroyed my bone density,” she explained.
“I regret threatening my future so much for beauty standards and trying to fit into others’ expectations… That’s why I speak out about eating disorders and diet issues. Discussions about the dangers of being in a larger body are common, but there is almost no discourse around the dangers of not eating enough, only eating too much.”
Regarding Coldplay, the group’s performance at Glastonbury 2024 was noted by NME: “The best Glasto sets are those where you know you’re witnessing something historic, which is a shame that such a monumental moment was overshadowed by small things.”
“This was not just about the energetic performance of their new single ‘Feeliveimfallinginlove’—it was evidence that Glastonbury was ready for a classic complete set,” it added. “As the great Michael J. Fox said: ‘I think you guys aren’t ready for this yet.’”
