The upcoming film is produced in collaboration with Universal Pictures Content Group and will premiere at the close of this year, marking 50 years since the iconic metal band was formed.
Exploring Their Legacy
This engaging documentary promises to be an emotional journey through the band’s history. It aims to explore their musical heritage while showcasing the impact Iron Maiden has had on both fans and band members alike.
Alongside lifelong fans, the film features renowned personalities inspired by the group, including actor Javier Bardem, Lars Ulrich, and Gene Simmons of Kiss.
The documentary also includes rare archival footage and newly animated sequences featuring the band’s legendary mascot, Eddie, along with the last interview with Paul Di’anno, who sadly passed away last year at the age of 66.
While the official title and release date have yet to be announced, it is anticipated to debut this fall. Malcolm Venille (Churchill in the War) will direct the film, while production is led by Dominic Freeman (Spirits in the Forest – Film Depeche Mode).
“We are proud to partner with Universal Pictures Content Group to share the unique history of Iron Maiden with the world. They had unlimited access to the band, our fans, and musical peers,” stated group manager Ron Smallwood.
“We believe this film will resonate not only with music fans but also with anyone who appreciates the story of those who defy the odds to become one of Britain’s most significant musical exports since our first record 45 years ago.”
Describing how the film will delve into the cultural significance of Iron Maiden since their founding in 1975, executive producer Helen Parker added: “We are thrilled about Iron Maiden and are committed to bringing their heritage to cinemas worldwide. Collaborating closely with the band and their dedicated fans has been an unparalleled experience, allowing us to present their story uniquely and celebrate their fearless contributions during this 50th anniversary.”
More information regarding the release date and viewing platforms will be announced soon.
News of the forthcoming documentary comes as Iron Maiden has also confirmed plans to celebrate five decades together by releasing a new visual book titled Endless Dreams.
This book, expected to launch in the fall, will be filled with previously unseen images of band members, as well as photographs of their instruments, stage setups, handwritten lyrics, and archival artifacts. It will also include a preface by bassist Steve Harris and a foreword by frontman Bruce Dickinson.
Additionally, Iron Maiden is gearing up for their “Run for Your Life” tour, slated to begin in May. This special tour will feature a setlist comprised exclusively of songs from their first nine studio albums, starting from their self-titled debut to “Fear of the Dark.”
Since their formation in London in 1975, the band has sold over 100 million records worldwide and has performed more than 2,500 shows across six continents. Their last album, Senjutsu, was released in 2021 and received a four-star review from NME, heralded as an “instant classic” in Iron Maiden’s 41-year legacy.
