The Launch of Official Southeast Asia Charts
The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) has announced the official Southeast Asia Charts, which serves as a regional hub featuring weekly music charts from six ASEAN countries.
This initiative brings official weekly charts to Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, marking the first music rankings for both the Philippines and Vietnam.
IFPI has also updated the names of existing charts in the region to Official Indonesian Chart, Official Malaysia Chart, Official Singapore Chart, and Official Thailand Chart, respectively.
Chart Highlights and National Dominance
In the inaugural Official Philippines Chart, local R&B artist Dionela claimed the top position with Marilag, a viral hit released in November 2024. The artist made a strong debut with three tracks in the top 10.
On the other hand, the Official Vietnam Chart saw local talent shine, with DươNG Domic‘s Mất kết nối reaching number one, while Vietnamese artists filled eight of the top 10 spots.
The chart platform is accessible at CHIFATIONSSEACHARTS.com, along with social media channels that feature the top 20 tracks from each market weekly, incorporating streaming data from major platforms like Apple Music, Deezer, Spotify, and YouTube, as well as regional services such as Indonesia’s Langit Musik.
Global hits have found their way to the region’s charts, with Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars‘s Die with a Smile topping the Malaysia chart and landing in the top five across all six countries.
IFPI states that the charts utilize weighted streaming calculations to consider the differing economic values between free and paid streaming tiers, ensuring that rankings reflect both streaming volume and associated costs throughout the region.
Support and Future Outlook
Charts are compiled by Bmat, with tracking weeks running from Friday to Thursday and results published the following Tuesday.
The charts receive backing from national industry organizations, including Asiri (Indonesia), Equipment (Malaysia), Rias (Singapore), and Teca (Thailand). The IFPI has indicated that each participating country plans to host launch events featuring artist discussions and industry dialogues in the upcoming months.
“We are thrilled to announce the launch of the official IFPI charts in Southeast Asia, which aims to uplift the region’s artists and connect them with global audiences,” stated Sridhar Subramaniam, President for Asia and the Middle East at Sony Music Entertainment and Chairman of the Regional Executive Board of IFPI Asia.

“This unified platform will provide a launch pad for artists, giving them a stage to showcase their talents and celebrate their successes. Meanwhile, fans will have a curated space to explore Southeast Asia’s vast and exciting musical landscape.”
The Director General of IFPI, Weekly Oakley, emphasized Southeast Asia’s rich musical diversity and its potential to foster global talent. “Southeast Asia boasts a vibrant music tradition with dedicated fans across various local and regional genres, along with some of the biggest international superstars.”
“The region is also teeming with musical talent and with the official Southeast Asia charts, there is now a platform to showcase this talent regionally and beyond. As IFPI, we are excited to collaborate with the industry to further develop this asset and celebrate the next global artists emerging from the region.”
IFPI tentatively rolled out new music charts in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and North Africa at the close of 2023.
The launch of the official music hub in Southeast Asia comes nearly three years after IFPI established its Southeast Asia regional office in Singapore. According to the IFPI Global Music Report 2024, Asia is the third-largest music market globally, with revenues increasing 14.9% in 2023.
