Here’s Taylor Swift’s Response to Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s Engagement

Selena Gomez’s Engagement Celebration

Numerous notable personalities extended their congratulations to Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco on their engagement, including Taylor Swift.

Best Wishes from Friends

Following Gomez’s announcement of her engagement to producer and songwriter Blanco on Instagram last night (December 11), her close friend Swift was among the first to convey her best wishes.

In the post, which showcased close-ups of Gomez’s hand adorned with an engagement ring, alongside a photo of Blanco kissing Gomez, Swift humorously remarked, “Yeah, I’ll be the flower girl.”

Blanco also chimed in on his new fiancée’s post, saying, “Hey wait… that’s my wife,” while celebrity friends including Lil Nas X, Cardi B, Jennifer Aniston, Suki Waterhouse, Lily Collins, and Gwyneth Paltrow also joined in to offer their congratulations.

Gomez and Blanco’s engagement took place after a year and a half of dating, with their relationship beginning in June 2023. Gomez confirmed their romance in December of that same year, revealing to fans that Blanco was her “absolute everything in my heart.” They were acquainted for several years before they became a couple, as Blanco had produced her 2015 single “Same Old Love.”

In the meantime, Gomez and Swift’s friendship dates back to when they dated brothers Nick and Joe Jonas, respectively, in 2008. Gomez mentioned to Kiss FM in 2017 (via People), “We actually dated the Jonas Brothers together! It was hysterical. It was amazing because (Taylor) was a girl with big curly hair and bracelets and cowboy boots. And I was definitely up and coming and we just clicked. It was the best thing we got out of this relationship.”

Gomez recently shared insights about her acting career, particularly emphasizing her focus on music. The multi-talented artist, who turned 32 in July, stated to NME‘s Alex Flood last month about it being “really nice to focus on acting.” She also told Saoirse Ronan in an interview about Diversity Actors about actors that she feels she may be “too old for the pop star life.”

Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift attend the 2023 Video Music Awards at the Prudential Center on September 12, 2023 in Newark, New Jersey.

She elaborated on her relationship with Blanco, stating: “Music will always be a part of my life because my partner is a musician, and I enjoy finding moments to engage in it for fun. Sharing my art can feel vulnerable compared to stepping into a character.”

“I take pride in my music’s ability to tell a story. My favorite songs are primarily ballads; they are incredibly open and authentic. However, I do believe I might be too old for the pop star life. I am genuinely happy to embrace this new chapter in my life as, in many ways, it feels like just the beginning.”
