Exploring Heartworms’ Inspirations
This week Lid Heartworms – whose debut album Glutton For Punishment, especially the single “Warplane”, was inspired by military history – takes NME around the Royal Air Force Museum, where she volunteers. Explaining her long-standing fascination with war history and imagery, she says, “It’s easy to make (war) real when you’re around those things because you’re not hiding from them. Every day you become more aware of it.”
The artist – real name Jojo Orme – also communicates with NME about the conflict that marked her formative years, and how she might even need it in her life. “I was so used to it growing up,” Orme explains. “My mother and I are in constant conflict and walking on eggshells. It brought a lot of creativity and escapism.”
