Influences and Recognition

Earlier this week, the Denial Is A River rapper spoke about the influence the pop-punk band had on her as an artist, citing her time as a teenager in art school.

“Paramore was my first introduction to rock music,” Dochii told the publication. Sydney Morning Herald. “I know rock music is popular, but where I grew up in the South, in my culture and my environment, it wasn’t that popular. But it kind of changed my life and my outlook, and through Paramore I learned about different types of music. It made a huge impression on me and my style.”

Now, Williams has returned the compliment by responding to Dochii’s comments in an Instagram Stories update on her social media.

Above a still frame of the rapper’s quotes, Williams wrote: “This is my laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa days” Never hurt her. We go back, although we only saw each other once. She better win every Grammy too.”

Recent Achievements

Back in 2020, Dochii sampled Paramore’s 2010 single “The Only Exception” in her viral TikTok hit “Yucky Blucky Fruitcake,” where the musician rapped. “Singing karaoke while my mom was at the store (you) / Scared she’ll walk in on me singing Paramore (the only exception).”

Doechii’s last release was the 2024 mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal. The mixtape has been nominated for Best Rap Album at the 67th Grammy Awards, which will take place on February 2, 2025 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. The mixtape’s lead single, “Nissan Altima”, also earned her a nomination for Best Rap Performance, and she was nominated for Best New Artist.

In a four-star review of Alligator Bites Never Heal, NME shared, “At first, Dochii gets into the groove of this release, but by the end, she finds solace and strength, making the mixtape feel more like an audio diary of her emotional journey. It will take time to see if it becomes a standout in her discography, but this bold record definitely makes a statement.”

In other news, the Nissan Altima was named one of NME‘s “50 Best Songs of 2024.” Seth Pereira shared, “From the first second, ‘Nissan Altima’ is a show-off ride of show-off brilliance from the heir to the throne of Top Dawg Entertainment. Childish Major’s minimalist production is the perfect platform for Dochii to demonstrate why she is undoubtedly top of the class in 2024.”
