Hard Life Returns with New Single
Hard Life is back with their latest single, 'Othello', released through the island EMI and premiered as the hottest track on BBC Radio 1.
Exploring Complex Themes
The track was penned and recorded by Murray Matravers in Japan, marking a celebration of his first release since last summer’s “tears.” This new material comes after a period of significant transformation for the band, including shifts in names, countries, and relationships.
“Othello” draws on themes of trust and identity, echoing the complexities of the titular play and the destructive forces of uncontrolled emotions, particularly jealousy, as Matravers elaborates.
“Relationships—whether personal, romantic, or professional—are seldom straightforward. When faced with tough decisions, you sometimes cross that point of no return. “Othello” encapsulates that moment of uncertainty, where someone’s absence creates a profound emptiness as you navigate the unknown.”
The single emerged from a spontaneous trip to Japan, where Matravers collaborated with a fellow traveler named Taka. This venture followed a challenging period for Hard Life, marked by legal disputes and intense public scrutiny. Since then, the group has relocated to Leicester, planning to return to the festival scene this summer.
Hard Life’s previous work includes two albums, both reaching No. 2, along with collaborations with artists such as Arlo Parks, Kevin Abstract, and Finneas.
