Hannah Thompson-Witt Elevated to Senior Vice President

Virgin Music Group, an artist and label under Universal Music Group, has promoted Hannah Thompson-Witt to the position of senior vice president in commercial strategy.

Thompson-Witt, who previously served as vice president of commercial strategy, will now supervise the entire Virgin commercial division in the United States. Her responsibilities will include leading streaming strategy, analyzing releases, and initiatives to engage fans through the company’s independent artists and labels.

Executive Praise for Thompson-Witt

Zach Gershen, the executive vice president of global commercial and digital strategy, stated: “Hannah has an incredible ability to connect and engage with our diverse group of labels and artists.”

“She has been pivotal in providing innovative commercial strategies, and we look forward to her contributions in this new role.”

Since joining Virgin, Thompson-Witt has led commercial initiatives for various projects, including ClaraS. Charm, an album that debuted at number 8 on Billboard 200, and Holy VincentS. All Born Scream, which received three Grammy awards earlier this year. She has also worked with Amil, Nenubists, David Kushner, Tom Odell, and on TOVE LO‘s recent collaboration with S.G. Lewis.

Before her tenure at Virgin, she served as vice president of digital marketing at Mteoria, a company focused on artist development, co-founded by Virgin Music Group Co-Directors JT Myers and Nat Pastor, which was acquired by UMG in 2022.

Thompson-Witt entered the music industry in 2014 when she launched her own K-Pop media company while completing her graduate studies. She later moved to Seoul, where she immersed herself in the Korean music scene and developed English-language resources for the expanding global K-Pop fan community.

“Hannah has an incredible ability to communicate and connect with our diverse group of partners in labels and artists.”

This development marks the latest executive move at Virgin Music following the recent appointment of Adrian Dad as executive vice president of digital business and global partnerships last month.

In December, Mark Robinson, who previously held a position at Paramount Global, was named the first executive vice president for global businesses and legal affairs.

Over the past year, Virgin Music has made several notable appointments, including Cindy James as general manager of North American operations, Nick Gelakis and Nicole Thomas from the South African division, and Justin Bumper Rive as senior vice president of global sync.
