New Album Announcement
The Walkmen’s Hamilton Leithauser has announced a new solo album and shared a new single “Knockin’ Heart” – check it out below.
Leithauser took to social media last night (January 8) to announce an upcoming album titled “This Side of the Island.” The album will be released on March 7 via Glassnote. You can pre-order or pre-save your copy here.
Production Details
“This Side of the Island,” which was announced in December, was co-produced by Leithauser and his wife Anna Stumpf, with The National’s Aaron Dessner co-producing seven of the nine tracks.
Leithauser wrote about the upcoming album: “I can’t wait for you to hear it in its entirety. I worked on this for eight years… yes, 8. Barack Obama was president when I recorded the piano for the first song 😬. I mostly wrote and recorded it in my home studio, the entire record is produced by myself and my wife Anna, and seven songs are also produced by my friend, the amazing @aarondessner. Honestly, after I worked with Aaron, I remixed the other two based on his input, so his fingerprints are really all over it!”
Regarding “Knockin’ Heart,” Leithauser shared: “I started it with the idea that I wanted to write a power trio song like Nirvana. This is an aloof, stoned lover eager to convey a message to someone who probably isn’t listening. It’s ‘I’ll love you all my life if you let me.’ There are three basses on it… one of mine and two of Aaron’s. (His idea… and a great one, to be honest, because the bass is amazing.) It was written quickly, and the lyrics depict lifelong love, across time and space. I hope you give it a try.”
