Guns N’ Roses Announces “Friendly” Departure of Longtime Drummer Frank Ferrer

Guns N’ Roses Announces Departure

Guns N’ Roses has announced the departure of their long-time drummer Frank Ferrer after 19 years.

Details of Ferrer’s Tenure

Ferrer was the longest-serving drummer in the group, having joined in 2006 to replace Brian Mantle, just a few years before frontman Axl Rose reunited with Slash and bassist Duff McKagan. Previous drummers include Steve Adler and Matt Sorum.

In a statement on social media, the band said: “Guns N’ Roses announces the amicable exit of Frank Ferrer, the longest-serving drummer in their legendary history. The group expresses gratitude for Frank’s friendship, hard work, and impactful presence over the past 19 years, wishing him success in the next chapter of his musical career.”

“Frank first joined GNR during a performance in June 2006, helping to reinforce the rhythm section during subsequent tours, including their recent outings with the reunited trio of Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan. His final show with the band took place on November 5, 2023, in Mexico.”

Future of the Band

No information regarding who will replace Ferrer has been disclosed by the band.

His departure comes just months after Matt Sorum expressed his feelings about being left out of the band’s reunion, acknowledging that he is now “much bigger in the world” than he was initially.

“Initially, I will be honest, it felt a little strange,” Sorum commented. “I thought, well, this is a reunion. Okay, good, make this reunion.” But it wasn’t.

He also mentioned that Ringo Starr from The Beatles reached out to him regarding his exclusion from the reunion. “The guy who called me and actually talked to me about this was Ringo (Starr),” he explained.

“And he said: ‘You weren’t invited to a party.’ I said: ‘No, I was not invited to a party.’ And you learn this as a person; if you’re not invited to a party, it will be few.” Sorum reflected on this experience, noting a conversation Ringo shared about John (Lennon) and Paul McCartney. “To me, it’s like, ‘In fact, he’s talking about John Lennon. This is madness.’ This directly resonated with me; the universe is on my side.”

In another development, GNR has recently been added to the lineup for the final concert of the Black Sabbath reunion.

The legendary heavy metal band will return for their last show at Villa Park in their hometown of Birmingham on Saturday, July 5.
