On Saturday (December 28), Grimes took to social media to reveal that she’s getting into religion and Christianity “because it’s the only way to quit smoking,” adding that “it’s very awkward.”
She wrote: “I’m more of a general deist/feel like god is physics/math/sees himself through our eyes, kind of an atmosphere in terms of what I ‘really think’ (the universe is also probably dead and empty except that yes, I don’t know, maybe not). ngl).”
She continued: “But there really is something here that at least speaks to me, and what’s weird is I never really needed it until I had to stop myself from doing something destructive. I don’t usually have the urge to overwhelm my central nervous system to do something as destructive as vaping (which sucks).”
It’s so embarrassing that I finally converted to Christianity because it’s the only way to quit smoking.

Grimes’ Reflection on Religion
Grimes added that the idea of studying religion is something completely new to her: “It really sent me into a philosophical tailspin, even though my mind had never been remotely open to religion, as I clearly strongly doubted it in first grade, even before I was introduced to the concept of doubt. But I understand that art itself may be God. The story you tell yourself is very powerful.”
In a separate tweet, Grimes mentioned she was “too corrupt” to be Catholic.
I’m afraid I’m too spoiled to be a Catholic.

Grimes’ post on X (formerly Twitter), owned by her former partner Elon Musk, comes just a day after she stated that Musk did not “dump her.”
Musk and Grimes have three children: X Æ A-12, born in May 2020, Exa Dark Sideel Musk, born via surrogate in December 2021, and Techno Mechanicus known as Tau, born in late 2023. They announced their separation in September 2021, confirming that they had separated after three years together but were “still in love with each other.”
Twitter in response to Banks who in a separate tweet criticized Grimes for speaking publicly about her, Grimes wrote that her previous comment was “just a funny joke, bro” and that she was “not trying to paint you as a villain.”
Banks also tweeted about Grimes’ breakup with Musk, and the electronic pop singer responded: “I didn’t get dumped. I jumped. My wonderful baby sleeps next to me in my crib, I am in love. No regrets. Life is as beautiful as you want it to be.”
Last month, Grimes opened up about her custody battle with Musk over their children and how it allegedly affected her time with them. Grimes wrote: “Having children tears you apart and puts you back together again. Babies are 10 thousand lessons of philosophy, which can only be learned from this experience.”
She continued, “Spent a year fighting in a state with terrible mother’s rights and my Instagram posts and modeling being used as reasons why I shouldn’t have children.”
Last year, the musician sued Musk over Tau’s custody rights, claiming he did not allow her to visit him. Shortly after filing the lawsuit, Grimes appeared to suggest that Musk was preventing her from seeing her child. “Tell Elon to let me see my son or please respond to my lawyer,” she wrote in a now-deleted tweet.
