A Night to Remember

This memorable moment occurred this week at the iHeartRadio Awards 2025, held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, where the Pop Punk trio won the award for Alternative Artist of the Year.

After defeating competitors like Cage the Elephant, Linkin Park, 21 Pilots, and others, the members—Billy Joe Armstrong, Tre Cool, and Mike Dirnt—took the stage to reference the 1997 film Boogie Nights.

Holding the award, Armstrong paraphrased a famous speech from the film while his bandmates laughed in the background.

“Wow. I think the only thing I can say is that I will continue to swing and swing to make music and the best songs,” he said. “You know, it seems like we’re making these notes, and sometimes some people consider them dirty. This music we create can make people feel better.”

If anyone missed the reference to the film from director Thomas Anderson, Green Day also shared the post on Instagram after the ceremony, featuring two clips compiled for fans.

Other winners of the night included Billie Eilish, who received the Album of the Year award for “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” managing to triumph over the “Carter Cowboy” Beyoncé after a prior Grammy loss.

Elsewhere, Mariah Carey was presented with the Icon Award, Nelly with the Landmark Award, and Gracie Abrams took home the Breakthrough Award. For her acceptance speech, she expressed love for Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Noah Kahan, and The National. You can find a complete list of winners here.

In other news, the Green Day trio is set to return to the UK this summer for the Load 2025 tour alongside Sleep and Root Token. This follows the release of their 14th and latest studio album “Saviors” in early 2024.

Last month, they announced casting for a new film inspired by their early days together. The comedy film, entitled “New Year,” is currently in production in Oklahoma and follows the story of three friends who mistakenly believe they will open for Green Day at a New Year’s show in Los Angeles.

The group also collaborated with Billie Eilish at the Fireaid Benefit concert in Los Angeles in January, performing their 2009 hit “Last Night on Earth.”
