Cover Band Announcement
Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong’s cover band The Coverups has revealed another intimate show in London scheduled for 2025 – see full details below.
Band Formation and Performance Style
Established in 2018, the group comprises Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Green Day touring member Jason White, alongside their sound engineer Chris Dugan, tour manager Bill Schneider (also of Pinhead Gunpowder), and musician Greg Schneider.
The Coverups are celebrated for their lively performances, offering unique renditions of tracks from legendary artists such as David Bowie and The Rolling Stones.
Today, the band confirmed a concert at London’s O2 Islington Academy on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
Pre-sales start today (December 16th), and you can secure your tickets here – subject to availability.
Earlier this year, Courtney Love took the stage with The Coverups in London for a collaborative rendition of Hole’s ‘Celebrity Skin.’
She also contributed vocals on a version of David Bowie’s iconic track “Suffragette City” and performed Cheap Trick’s “Surrender.” During the show, the band additionally covered Bryan Adams’ “Summer Of ’69”, The Strokes’ “Last Nite”, and The Clash’s “Should I Stay Or Should I Go”.
NME interviewed Green Day at the 2024 BRIT Awards, discussing their experiences performing as The Coverups in smaller venues, inviting Courtney Love to perform, and the potential for future collaborations.
“I was texting with (Courtney Love) and said, ‘Come on, play the song,’ and she did,” Armstrong shared. “She performed “Suffragette City,” “Surrender,” and we got to do “Celebrity Skin,” a Hole song. She definitely brought rock ‘n’ roll back…you’ll likely hear more from her.”
In other news regarding Billie Joe Armstrong, he was recently seen at a Wrexham FC game alongside actor Channing Tatum.
Armstrong has expressed his passion for minor league football, routinely attending matches while Green Day was in the UK recording their latest album, Saviors.
“I went to a lot of football matches: Arsenal, Leyton Orient, Fulham. I went to The Den to see Millwall. It was amazing. Dude, if you want to truly experience British culture, this is what you should do,” he stated last year.
He added: “Football is a fucking religion. It’s like being at a big rock concert. You practically need earplugs! I’ve always wanted to check out all divisions, not just the world-class teams like Arsenal and Manchester City.”
