New Single Released
Green Day today (April 9) surprised fans with a new single titled “Smash it Like Belushi” – check it out below.
Details on the Deluxe Reissue
The single is among five new songs included in the recently announced Deluxe Reissue of ‘Saviors’, their chart-topping album released in 2024. Other new tracks feature titles like Fuck Off, Ballyhoo, Underdog, Stay Young, along with acoustic versions of Susie Blue and Father.
In a four-star review of “Saviors”, NME remarked: “There is a certain serendipity as the group embarks on a tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of ‘Dookie’ and the 20th anniversary of ‘American Idiot’ this summer. Not only does ‘Saviors’ spiritually bridge the gap between their eras, but it also showcases the best of the group while delivering something fresh.”
‘Saviors (Deluxe Edition)’ is set to release on May 23, and you can pre-order it here.
The first new track, “Smash it Like Belushi,” harkens back to the band’s earlier era and delves into themes of mental health and isolation. Frontman Billy Joe Armstrong sings about “screaming in silence,” “life in the city,” and “life in failure.”

In related news, earlier this week, Armstrong revealed that Perry Farrell dismissed the band as a “boy band” and did not want them to perform at Lollapalooza in 1994.
This incident is documented in a new book titled LOLLAPALOOZA: Extrase the History of the Most Wild Festival of Alternative Rock, which recounts the time when Jane’s Addiction frontman approached John Rubeli, then the director of Lollapalooza.
“I can’t think of a single instance where Perry turned away or vetoed a band—except for Green Day. … He remarked: ‘They are a boy band,’” Consequence reported.
Armstrong recalled: “Perry was a major asshole, right from the get-go. He wasn’t even part of the conversation; they asked us to play, and we said yes. It would be a snooze fest for the first half, and we were to play second as the opening act. Then, suddenly, he comes back and, like, I don’t want them on the bill. He clearly thought we were a band that was put together by Mo Austin at Warner Bros.”

He continued: “It was really disappointing for us because Perry was someone we respected greatly. I think that inspired us even more to play Lollapalooza because we wanted to prove that he had his head way up his ass.”
“He had minions that would come and say: ‘Perry Farrell really hates that you dedicated ‘Chump’ to him.’ And I’d say: ‘Tell him to stop acting like one.’”
Meanwhile, Green Day is set to headline Coachella 2025 this weekend alongside Lady Gaga, Post Malone, and Travis Scott.
Moreover, later this year, the band will perform at Download Festival 2025 alongside Sleep Token and RUT.
Music Bash will return to its home at Donington Park, Leicestershire, on the 22nd of June, taking place from June 13 to 15. Any remaining festival tickets can be found here.
