Recent Events
This honor comes shortly after the group completed two headliner sets at Coachella 2025. During their first weekend performance, they altered the lyrics of a song to address the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict.
While performing, frontman Billy Joe Armstrong sang, “Get away from pain, like children from Palestine/fairy tales from another broken house,” replacing the original line, “Run away from pain when you became victims.”
Following their set, a mini-feud erupted between fans of Charli XCX and Green Day. The tension escalated after Green Day closed the main stage on the second day of Coachella, with Charli performing right in front of them wearing a “Miss must be a headliner” tank top, perceived as a dig at Green Day.
Fans of Charli began defending her, stating that she should be headlining alongside Green Day due to her recent success, while Green Day fans argued that the band earned their status after years of legend.
In response, Billy Joe Armstrong wore a “Brat” cap during the weekend, while drummer Tre Cool donned a “real headliner” cap, all in good fun. Charli later expressed her “obsession” with their responses, indicating that the feud was over. Charli XCX also announced the conclusion of “Brat Summer,” passing the torch to a new group of musicians.
Before their performances, Green Day debuted a surprise new single titled “Smash it Like Belushi” and announced the deluxe reissue of “Saviors,” their number one album released in 2024.
In a four-star review of “Saviors,” NME noted, “This album reflects the band’s legacy, bridging their past and present while also showcasing their best work to date.”
‘Saviors (Deluxe Edition)’ is set to release on May 23, and you can preorder it here.
