Details of the Cancellation
The group reached the end of the Australian leg of their “saviors” tour, and the last concert was scheduled to take place at the Robin Gold-Kost stadium on Wednesday (March 5).
However, on Tuesday (March 4), they announced that they had no choice but to cancel the show due to the predicted severe weather conditions expected to impact the Queensland area later this week.
They shared their news on Instagram, stating: “Hey, Australia, unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, tomorrow’s Gold-Kost show has been canceled.”
Impact of Cyclone Alfred
“With cyclone Alfred bringing severe weather, it is simply impossible to proceed safely. We understand this is a significant disappointment, and we share in your frustration. Stay safe!”
The Robin stadium also issued a statement: “We acknowledge the excitement of fans for the concert, and we share your disappointment. The concert organizers explored all possibilities to continue the event, but confidence in the safety and travel of concert-goers, performers, and staff cannot be assured under the current conditions.”
It is anticipated that cyclone Alfred will be the most severe storm to affect Queensland in over 50 years, with wind speeds reaching up to 130 km/h and significant rainfall expected over three days.
The trio plans to return to the UK this summer for their 2025 tour alongside Sleep Token and Root. Billy Joe Armstrong and the band released their 14th and latest studio album “Saviors” in early 2024.
Last month, they held a casting call for a new film inspired by their early days together. The comedy film, titled New Year Rev, is currently in production in Oklahoma and will tell the story of three friends who travel across the United States after mistakenly believing they are set to open for Green Day at a New Year’s show in Los Angeles.
The group also collaborated with Billie Eilish at the Fireaid Benefit concert in Los Angeles in January, where they performed their 2009 song “Last Night on Earth.”
