Stevi Under Performs Tribute
Stevi Under led a heartfelt tribute to Cuinsey Jones at the Grammy Awards 2025 with a captivating performance of “We Mir.” He was joined on stage by Gianel Monae, Herby Hankok, and Wicked star Cynthia Erivo.
Will Smith’s Emotional Introduction
The tribute segment was organized by Will Smith, marking his return to the awards show after the infamous incident at the Oscars in 2022 involving Chris Rock. “Cuinsey Jones touched countless lives during his 91 years, but I must say he forever changed mine,” Smith reflected.
Jones served as an executive producer on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, a series that launched Smith’s career in 1990.
“You probably wouldn’t even know who Smith was if it weren’t for Cuinsey Jones,” he continued. “Cuinsey helped so many great musicians across various genres shine even brighter, attracting some of the best legends.”
Smith then introduced his collaborator Hankok, who commenced the tribute with Erivo’s soulful performance of “Fly Me to the Moon,” a classic associated with Jones and made famous by Frank Sinatra.
Country star Leoni Wilson later took the stage to perform the Jones classic “Let the Good Times Roll,” while Hankok joined in for the jazz standard “Mellow Madness,” which Jones produced in his iconic 1975 album. Additionally, he worked on the charity single “We Are the World.”
Monáe wowed the audience with an electrifying rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough,” dazzling everyone in a brilliant tuxedo. Check out the clips of the performances below.

Cuinsey Jones passed away at the age of 91 in November of the previous year. His daughter Rashida and her family accepted the award for lifetime achievement on his behalf, reading a speech that the producer had prepared prior to his death.
“Our father passed just two weeks ago. He was truly excited to be here tonight, and many of his family members are present,” Rashida shared, accompanied by her siblings. “He really intended to be here with us tonight, and I want you to know he is here, very much here.”
