Gracie Abrams Responds to Fan Petition
Gracie Abrams has addressed a “wildly uncool” fan petition to replace Dora Jar as the opening act for her upcoming UK and European tour – see what Abrams had to say below.
Upcoming Tour Details
On Friday (January 24), Alt-Pop artist and former NME Cover The Dora Jar star announced she would open for Abrams on her UK and European tour in February and March, which includes shows in Nottingham, Leeds, London, Manchester, Cardiff, Dublin, and Glasgow.
However, shortly after the announcement, several fans of Abrams expressed their dissatisfaction with the choice of Jar as the opening act, with some social media users spreading what appeared to be a crowdfunding campaign to replace her on the tour.
An anonymous commenter using the name Dexter Morgan (a character from the TV series Dexter) initiated a change.org petition stating that fans are “confused as we don’t recognize (Dora Jar) and with less than two weeks to go on tour, it’s nearly impossible to get to know her slowly developing songs.” The campaign’s author also proposed replacing Jar with “a more famous, energetic artist or group.”
Jar responded on Saturday (January 25), explaining: “Hate comes with work, the truth is this is the biggest outpouring of love I’ve ever received from a fan base that is still new to me. Gracie has beautiful fans with open hearts and I’m so excited about it.”
As for the tour headliner herself, Gracie Abrams appeared to notice the petition after seeing the post on Stereogum’s Instagram page regarding this matter. She commented: “Just hearing about this absolute ridiculousness… so wildly uncool and weird and also just doesn’t add up. I saw only the complete excitement of everyone, and I did not have the luck or chance to share with this talented miracle. Stream everything she’s ever done, whether or not you go to the show. Dora forever.”
