Gracie Abrams Claims No One Comes Close to Defining Pop Culture Like Taylor Swift

Gracie Abrams on Taylor Swift’s Impact

Gracie Abrams stated that no one “is approaching the definition of pop culture” quite like Taylor Swift.

Speaking with Cosmopolitan for the magazine’s latest cover issue, Abrams discussed the similarities and distinctions between herself and her mentor, Taylor Swift, who has featured her during her record eras.

Differences Between Abrams and Swift

Gracie Abrams, daughter of JJ Abrams, shared with the publication: “I could not be more different from Taylor. We vary in all the ways friends do, or how you and I differ. Taylor is an athlete, a shrewd businesswoman, and a talented writer. She is a down-to-earth person who dedicates time to everyone in her life. Being in the orbit of someone like her has been incredibly cool.”

Abrams added: “There’s also nothing that approaches what she’s accomplished. People continue to marvel at her abilities and all that she brings to the table. But can anyone point to one person who has defined pop culture in the same way? There’s nothing! Yet, I don’t think people are ready for this conversation.”

Since then, Taylor Swift and Abrams have forged a close friendship. In December, Abrams mentioned that the conclusion of the Eras Tour left everyone emotional, stating, “It felt like the last day of school backstage. Everyone was signing each other’s (tour) books, we were all walking around with Sharpies.”

Abrams’ Musical Journey

Abrams’ latest project, “Secret of Us,” received a four-star review from NME following its release in June: “This is a moment of pure pop catharsis, embracing both its light and darker themes. ‘Secret of Us’ doesn’t shy away from the complex or the contradictory. Gracie Abrams embraces her growing pains and celebrates overcoming difficult moments. She has never sounded better.”

In December, Abrams performed with Swift during the final leg of the “Eras Tour,” delivering heartfelt renditions of “I Love You, Too” and “The Last Kiss” from Swift’s 2010 album, ‘Speak Now.’

Earlier, they collaborated on a track from Abrams’ latest album. In November, the song earned a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group but ultimately lost to Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars for “Die with a Smile.”
