Gordy unveils new single
Gordy has released a new single 'Alien Cowboy', a striking piece of pop music produced by Costa Rican Matias Mora.
Exploring themes of acceptance
This track follows the November EP “Lunch in Dune,” which featured a collaboration with Soak. Recorded in Los Angeles, the new single delves into themes of unusual acceptance and fantasy.
“I envisioned how a gay utopia would look,” Gordy explains. “Mr. Morality and large scholarships have just vacated, and we compelled him to break through the speakers. I sat at the piano and recorded this low, distorted section. I pictured being stranded in the desert as this wondrous Salvador Dali-inspired world emerged. Everything is melting, and there’s this gigantic figure extending their hand to me. It’s about crafting an imaginary place where unusual individuals can experience complete acceptance. When I reached the chorus, I aimed to transform this fictional realm into something more personal, realizing perhaps it’s not a place at all, but a feeling.”
The single comes with a video directed by Madeleine Purdy, wherein Gordy takes on dual roles. “I shared this concept with my friend Maddy Purdy, who developed the video’s idea,” Gordy reveals. “She mentioned there would be two characters – a man belonging to Scorpio and Scorpio itself. I had to portray both. It took nearly two hours to get the contact lenses in.”
Purdy adds: “I think it poses an intriguing question – if you were like a pet in a beautiful, safe tank, would you choose to escape? We aimed to create a video that explores what it means to be both the master and captive of your own life.”
The track heralds the beginning of Gordy’s third album, following recent tours in Australia and London.
