Gordy Announces New Album
Gordy has revealed the details of her upcoming third album, “Like a Platinum,” along with the release of her new single “Peripheral Lover.”
Details About The New Single
Australian Indo-Pop artist Sophie Patyte will be releasing her twelve-year record via Mushroom Music on May 30. The album features previous singles “Alien Cowboy” and “Lunch at Dune,” which includes a collaboration with Soak.
“Summer in Nashville a few years ago was incredibly hot,” explains Patyten about her new single. “I reflected on the complexities of strange relationships—I’m talking about scenarios where at least one person is still in the closet. Accepting unconventional love often doesn’t revolve around you. There comes a turning point where honesty is essential, and the relationship either erupts into the open or fades into nothing. From these thoughts, ‘Peripheral Lover’ was born.”
“This is a straightforward song with a clear message, which is why I wrote ‘KISS’ (keep it simple, stupid) on a note and stuck it on my desk in Melbourne while I recorded guitars, synthesizers, and drums. I was in my very ‘pop music’ zone—terrifying yet ridiculously cheerful.”
The accompanying video was directed by Jared Friedir. Payten shares, “A couple of years ago, Troye Sivan reached out to me to help him write a song for a film. We created ‘Wait’ for the movie ‘Three Months,’ which was devised by the talented director Jared Friedir. He came to mind when I wanted to visualize ‘Peripheral Lover.’ We traveled to Dallas and filmed on a scorching 45-degree day, where I carried the cabin of kisses throughout the city. We called upon all sorts of intriguing strangers in Dallas for the shoot, and my heart raced with the unfamiliar.”
Reflecting on the album, Payten notes, “Being surrounded by death has made me realize how beautiful life is… I contemplated all the ways life shapes us—forces beyond our control distort us, stretch us, and test our endurance. Yet sometimes, heart-wrenching changes can lead to something beautiful. It’s about making music as fearless as the stories within it.”
